What can you expect from a treatment?

Sessions usually run for 1 to 1.5 hours.

Clients are treated fully clothed lying on a futon on the floor so it’s best to wear loose, comfortable clothing.

Shiatsu uses palms, thumbs, elbows, knees and sometimes feet to work on various parts of the body with firm, direct pressure and gentle holding to induce a state of deep relaxation.

By working on the muscles and more deeply on the internal organs, nervous system and meridians (energy channels), shiatsu harmonises the body & mind, and promotes well-being.

Each practitioner works differently, don’t be afraid to ask questions or give feedback as it’s important that you feel comfortable throughout the treatment.

How often should you get treatments?

This is one of the most common questions clients ask. The answer really depends on you, your condition and circumstances at the time.

But as a basic rule, in an acute condition, having regular treatments will help you to return to a natural state of balance more quickly and consistently.

The key then is to maintain that balance to prevent illness, which is not always easy in our busy and often stressful lives.

The importance of sickness prevention is illustrated by the fact that in ancient China, family physicians were only paid when their clients were healthy, not when they became sick.

How do you feel after treatments?

By tapping into your body’s natural ability to heal, shiatsu generally helps you feel relaxed, reconnected and re-energised.

As treatments can sometimes stir up dormant energies and emotions, there can be diverse healing responses which range from one person to another.

Shiatsu usually takes several days to settle in your body so you can be sure that you will carry the changes that occur during treatment into your everyday life.
